Bookstrom, A. A., Raines, G. L., and Johnson, B. R., 1995, Digital mineral resource maps of phosphate and natural aggregate for the Pacific Northwest: a contribution to the Interior Columbia Basin Ecosystem Management Project: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 95-681, 28 p. plus 4 plates. This report describes the contents of a digital dataset (approximately 50 MB) which consists of ARC/INFO Export format files and associated macro programs. The dataset includes mineral resource maps of phosphate and of sand and gravel in the northwestern U.S. north of 39 degrees N latitude and west of approximately 108 degrees W longitude compiled from digital datasets for the states of California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. The report describes the distribution, quantity, and quality of these resources in the Pacific Northwest. It also describes and discusses the uses, production, and likely future development of these resources, and the implications of resource development for ecosystem management in the interior Columbia River Basin. The dataset also includes macro programs and complete plot files for creating paper copies of the maps at a scale of 1:2,000,000. Page-sized, color versions of the maps are included in this report as well as a description of how to obtain the dataset over the Internet. Requirements: A networked computer system is required to copy the dataset from the host computer across the Internet. A Geographic Information System capable of importing ARC/INFO Export format files is required for access to the digital files. All plot files are stored in HPGL2 format. The digital dataset files are in UNIX ASCII format.
